Hermes Birkin in Croc Porosus Lisse

In the race for Forbes’ Most Extravagant Handbags, it comes to be no surprise that Hermes takes the cake. The Hermes Birkin in Croc Porosus Lisse is no boring ‘ole standard issue 35cm Birkin, but made on special order only. The limited bag is set with over 10 carats of shiny diamonds, and with a price tag of nearly $150,000 I am quite confident that the number of orders on this beauty are quite limited as well.

Many thanks to Hitha Prabhakar, Megs was very excited to be interviewed by Forbes for the article! Read the full story here.

Hermes Diamond Crocodile Birkin

Image via Doyle New York

Those behind the Louis Vuitton Tribute Patchwork Bag still have me confused and disgusted, but really annoyed that so many large publications and articles are throwing the “most expensive handbag in the world” title to that atrocious piece of work. That LV junk is at most half the price of a bag that truly deserves some praise, the Hermes Diamond Crocodile Birkin. The Hermes Diamond Crocodile Birkin is what Maybach is to cars, Schloss Neuschwanstein is to castles, Monaco is to luxurious nightlife, and Purse Blog is to handbag enthusiasts (

). Ultra lux croc on a Hermes Birkin is enough to make you beg at a strange SA’s feet, but paired with 14 carats of pave diamonds on the signature Birkin lock and clasp would send me into a continuous groveling state. That sight would not be pretty. Recently Doyle New York auctioned off a Hermes Diamond Croc Birkin which sold for $64,800. That price is reasonable, compared to a ‘$140,000 one-of-a-kind pink crocodile Birkin bag with diamond hardware that was sold in one day’ when the Hermes Palm Beach Store opened in February 2007 {via Palm Beach Daily News}. While a Croc Birkin is one my dream list, the diamond encrusted croc Birkin seems a bit far fetched for me, but is still a masterpiece and the pinnacle of all handbags. To whoever keeps pushing that LV bag as the most expensive in the world, feast your eyes on a bag that makes the LV tag of $45k look like chump change next to $140k.

Hermes Ostrich Hedgehog and Crocodile Tortoise Coinbags

Picture via appledaily.com.hk

Imagine walking into Hermes New York thinking you could walk away with a little coinbag. You walk into the store feeling completely out of place. ‘My shoes are merely designer brand not premium designer, my shirt is from Banana Republic not off the runway, my bag is not a Hermes’, you think to yourself. Peering into the glass counter you encounter the perfect accessory to walk away with, a beaver coin purse. Must be about $300 you think to yourself, which of course is expensive, but hey, it is Hermes. You ask the SA with conviction about the price but in your mind know you can afford it. Right? Wrong! ‘$900 she states’. You sink back into your Banana Republic top and realize you will leave with a Twilly. You think you can walk into Hermes and spend a small amount of money, think again. Your best bet at a ‘cheap’ item is a Hermes Scarf Twilly, costing you around $125.

While the Hermes Ostrich Hedgehog and Crocodile Tortoise Coinbags are the most adorable coinbags ever, the price is even more un-affordable in my world right now. Thanks to billbill for the pictures and to wongnumber for the price estimations. The estimation for the snail is around $852, though possibly upwards of $2163 seeing that it is croc. The adorable ostrich hedgehog will be similarly priced since it is also exotic. After about $600, I can not justify these, but if you can, do it- they are so amazingly cute!

Hermes Fall 2007

Hermes Fall 2007 exploded on the runway of Paris with a sense of wearable luxury that is not to be messed with. Jean Paul Gaultier put together an luxe and exotic clothing line, filled with crocodile, chiffon, velvet, all exemplifying exquisite attention to detail. When it came to the bags, JPG introduced the Kelly as a soft hand Muff. The Kelly Muff’s showed up in exotic crocodile and were infused with fluffy warmth on the inside. Similar to his foldable Kelly Flat from the Spring line, JPG also sent out foldable suede Kellys and croc clutches. But the Hermes Kelly Muff ruled the show as far as handbags are concerned; is it easy to wear or even feasible to buy? The key accessory revolved around the hat, in fluffy cashmere to structured crocodile and leather, the importance of a hat in the fall is key. Overall, the show showed impeccable attention to detail and gave off a feeling of extravagance one would look for when venturing to the house of Hermes, so much so that Gaultier recognized his show was a hit and trotted on stage with an over-sized Croc Kelly for the grand finale.

Christie Brinkley Hermes Kelly Bag

Although the goal was to go to court to figure out custody issues, Christie Brinkley also fulfilled the goal of going to court looking fabulous. Seeing that I am a handbag stalker of sorts, I only gawked at her beautiful Hermes Kelly Bag. A black Kelly says, “I’m sophisticated, smart, and put together. Don’t mess with me, or my kids!” Brinkley and Peter Cook reached a temporary custody agreement. Good for them, but really, that bag, DROOL.

Cameron Silver: The Ultimate Hermes Aficionado

With a croc vest on and showing off his 40 cm “Mirkin” (man-Birkin), Cameron Silver is the ultimate Hermes Aficionado.

The shopkeeper of L.A.’s A-list-only vintage boutique, Decades, keeps plenty of mint-condition Birkin bags for his private stash. Get a tour of Silver’s collection in our exclusive video.

Next on his list, a custom made Hermes Croc Tie. Those are the kind of items you special order when you are super tight with Hermes and own a few too many Hermes goods, although it can always be argued that there is never enough when it comes to the House of Hermes.
